Umrah packages from the UK
How British pilgrims enter Saudi Arabia for Umrah, how ATOL protects your money, and what packages cost.
Most UK Umrah packages last 7 to 14 nights, with return flights and a split between Madinah and Makkah. British citizens do not need a separate Umrah visa outside the Hajj season, which keeps short trips simple.
The UK's big safeguard is financial protection. A package that includes a flight should be ATOL protected, and you should get an ATOL certificate when you book.
Travel advice, 27 October 2026: the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia, after attacks on Saudi airports, and says further attacks are very likely. Read the FCDO advice and our travel update before you book.

Umrah visa for British citizens
The FCDO lists three electronic routes for British citizens:
- Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): multiple entry, up to 180 days in total in any 730 days. It covers Umrah outside the Hajj season.
- Tourist e-visa: valid for 365 days, multiple entry, up to 90 days in total, and includes health insurance.
- Electronic visa waiver: single entry, up to 180 days. It also covers Umrah outside the Hajj season.
Hajj needs a separate Hajj visa. Whichever route you use, you book your Umrah time slot (permit) in the Nusuk or Tawakkalna app.
Saudi Arabia's Nusuk Umrah platform lets pilgrims outside the Kingdom apply for an Umrah visa and book hotels and transport directly. It shows which packages you can buy only after you register, and we could not confirm from an official source that UK citizens are on its self-booking list.
If you live in the UK on another passport, your route may be different. Reports from 2023 say UK permanent residents, and holders of a UK visa that has been used, can get a Saudi e-visa, but we have not seen this confirmed by an official source in 2026. One November 2026 mosque group trip charges foreign-passport holders £150 extra for the visa. Tell the operator your nationality before you book.
Who may sell Umrah in the UK
In the UK, a package holiday that includes a flight must be protected under ATOL, the Civil Aviation Authority's scheme. The Package Travel Regulations 2018 also require organisers to protect your money against insolvency; packages without flights use bonding, insurance or a trust account instead.
When you book a flight-inclusive package you should receive an ATOL certificate that names who protects your trip. A travel agent can sell under another company's ATOL, so the seller does not always hold its own number. Check the number on atol.org; failed ATOL holders are on the CAA's register of failed holders. ATOL does not cover complaints, or flight-only tickets sold without a certificate.
The CAA has warned Hajj and Umrah pilgrims about unlicensed "pop-up" deals, even when friends recommend the company. ABTA advises getting everything in writing and never paying cash, or by bank transfer, to an individual. Some UK sites say not every package they sell is ATOL protected, so ask about the exact package you are buying.
On the Saudi side, you can also look the company up on Nusuk Masar's public list of qualified external agents. See how to check an operator.

Flights
Saudia flies non-stop to Jeddah from London Heathrow and Manchester. Its Birmingham to Jeddah flights are suspended until at least the end of March 2027. Wizz Air withdrew its Gatwick to Jeddah and Gatwick to Madinah flights from sale in July 2026, and we found no current non-stop from the UK to Madinah.
Scheduled times are about 6 hours from Heathrow and 6 hours 20 minutes from Manchester. From Glasgow, Birmingham and other airports, pilgrims connect via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, or travel to Manchester or Heathrow.
Saudi airports were attacked in October 2026 and flights across the region were disrupted. Check your flight status with the airline, and the FCDO advice, close to departure.
We do not sell packages. The prices on this page were published by agencies and checked by us on 29 October 2026. They are examples to help you judge the quotes you receive, not offers.

Questions pilgrims ask
Do British citizens need an Umrah visa?
Not outside the Hajj season. The FCDO says the ETA, the tourist e-visa and the electronic visa waiver all allow Umrah outside Hajj. You still need a Nusuk Umrah permit.
What is ATOL and does it cover Umrah?
ATOL is the CAA's financial protection for package trips that include a flight. A flight-inclusive Umrah package should come with an ATOL certificate. Check the number on atol.org.
Is it safe to travel for Umrah from the UK now?
On 27 October 2026 the FCDO advised against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia and said further airport attacks are very likely. Read the latest FCDO advice, check what your travel insurance covers, and ask operators for flexible dates.
Are there direct flights from the UK to Madinah?
We found none. Wizz Air's Gatwick to Madinah flights were withdrawn in July 2026. Saudia flies non-stop to Jeddah from Heathrow and Manchester.
