Umrah packages from Australia

A long journey, a simple visa, and no Australian licence, so your own checks matter.

There are no direct flights from Australia to Saudi Arabia, so every Umrah trip includes a stop, usually in Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul or Kuala Lumpur. Packages usually last 10 to 12 days, and are sold from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Travel advice, October 2026: after attacks on Saudi airports, the Australian Government advises Australians to reconsider travel to Saudi airports. Read the latest on Smartraveller and our travel update.

Umrah visa for Australian citizens

Australia is on the Saudi tourist eVisa list. The eVisa allows Umrah outside the Hajj season and is valid for a year, with stays of up to 90 days per visit. Australia is also on Nusuk Umrah's list of serviced countries, so you can register and buy packages directly on umrah.nusuk.sa.

You still book an Umrah permit in the Nusuk app. All pilgrims need the meningitis ACYW vaccine at least 10 days before arrival; Australia is not on the Saudi lists that require a certificate, polio or yellow fever vaccination.

Who may sell Umrah in Australia

Australia has no licence for selling Umrah. Travel agent licensing and the compulsory Travel Compensation Fund were wound down from 1 July 2014. The accreditation scheme that replaced them, ATAS, run by the travel industry body AFTA, is voluntary.

So the check is on the Saudi side. Sellers of Umrah visa packages must be qualified external agents contracted with a licensed Saudi Umrah company. Search Nusuk Masar's public list, Inquiry About Qualified External Agents, by choosing Umrah services, Australia and your city. Or book on Nusuk Umrah yourself.

Australian Consumer Law gives you guarantees that cannot be signed away: services must be provided with due care and skill and within a reasonable time. But the ACCC says these guarantees are unlikely to apply when a third party, such as a government closing airspace, causes a cancellation; then your refund depends on the booking terms. The ACCC does not resolve individual complaints, and Smartraveller says the government cannot step into disputes with pilgrimage providers. Read the terms before you pay (ACCC guidance).

Questions pilgrims ask

Can Australians get an Umrah visa online?

Yes. Australia is on the tourist eVisa list, and the eVisa allows Umrah outside Hajj. You can also book on Nusuk Umrah directly.

Do Umrah agents in Australia need a licence?

No Australian licence exists. Check that the seller is a qualified external agent on Nusuk Masar, and read its terms closely.

Will I get a refund if my Umrah trip is cancelled?

It depends. Consumer guarantees are unlikely to apply if a third party, such as a government closing airspace, causes the cancellation. Then your refund depends on the booking terms, so get them in writing.

Are there direct flights from Australia to Saudi Arabia?

No. The fastest one-stop trips take about 18 hours from Sydney and 17 hours 40 minutes from Melbourne.
