Umrah from Nigeria

Umrah packages from Nigeria

NAHCON licenses Umrah operators, and Nigerian pilgrims have extra health rules to meet.

Umrah from Nigeria is closely regulated. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) licenses the companies that take pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah, and Nigerian pilgrims must meet extra Saudi health rules, including yellow fever and polio vaccination.

Flights are improving. Saudia already flies non-stop from Kano to Jeddah, and is due to start Abuja to Jeddah non-stops on 1 December 2026.

Umrah visa for Nigerian passport holders

Nigeria is not on the Saudi tourist eVisa list; in Africa only South Africa, Mauritius and Seychelles are. Nigeria does appear on Nusuk Umrah's list of serviced countries, where you can register and see packages, but we could not confirm that Nusuk issues visas to Nigerian passport holders directly. Plan to go through a NAHCON-licensed operator.

Reports say Saudi Arabia offers eVisas to holders of valid US, UK or Schengen visas that have been used, and to residents of the US, UK and EU, whatever their nationality. We have not verified this on the official portal.

NAHCON warns pilgrims to avoid "half-packaged visas", and says operators arranging passports or visas from another country are acting illegally.

Who may sell Umrah in Nigeria

The NAHCON Establishment Act 2006 gives the Commission the power to "license, regulate, supervise and perform oversight functions over organisations" taking people from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah. An operator that breaks its licence terms commits an offence, with fines of up to ₦500,000 for a first offence and ₦1,000,000 for a second, and the licence can be revoked.

NAHCON publishes a list of companies with a current Umrah licence and warns pilgrims not to use companies that are not on it. The list on the site is dated 2021 to 2023, with 173 companies, and we found no newer list. Ask the operator for its licence and check it with NAHCON directly.

A NAHCON circular of 20 July 2026 sets new conditions for Hajj and Umrah operators: a CAC-registered travel agency, a ₦250 million bank guarantee, valid IATA accreditation, accredited staff, a proven pilgrimage record, Nusuk compliance, confirmed accommodation and transport, three years' tax clearance and audited accounts.

Also search the operator on Nusuk Masar's list of qualified external agents, Inquiry About Qualified External Agents. See how to check an operator.

Flights

  • Kano: Saudia flies non-stop to Jeddah four times a week, about 5 hours 5 minutes.
  • Abuja: Saudia is due to start non-stop flights on 1 December 2026, three a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) on an A321XLR, rising to four a week from 10 February to 9 March 2027. Until then, pilgrims connect via Cairo, Addis Ababa, Doha or Istanbul.
  • Lagos: no non-stop. EgyptAir via Cairo and Qatar Airways via Doha have the most connections, with Ethiopian, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and Emirates also flying. The fastest trip is about 9 hours. A Saudia Lagos service has been called for but not confirmed.

Aircraft from Nigeria must carry a disinsection certificate. After the October 2026 attacks on Saudi airports, check flight status close to departure; see our travel update.

Vaccinations for Nigerian pilgrims

The Saudi Ministry of Health's Umrah rules for 1447H (2026) list Nigeria among the countries whose pilgrims must:

  • Show a meningococcal ACYW vaccination certificate: conjugate vaccine within 5 years, or polysaccharide within 3 years, at least 10 days before arrival.
  • Have had at least one dose of IPV polio vaccine (or a type-2-containing oral vaccine if IPV is not available).
  • Be vaccinated against yellow fever, for everyone over 9 months old.

Get these done early and carry the certificates. See the Umrah checklist.

One large online seller publishing Nigerian Umrah prices does not appear on NAHCON's 2021 to 2023 Umrah licence list, which is another reason to check every seller.

We do not sell packages. The prices on this page were published by agencies and checked by us on 29 October 2026. They are examples to help you judge the quotes you receive, not offers.

What to ask before you pay

  • The licence or registration number, and where to check it.
  • Both hotel names and the walking distance to the Haram.
  • Room sharing, and whether flights, visa, transfers and meals are included.
  • Cancellation and refund rules in writing.

Questions pilgrims ask

Can Nigerians apply for an Umrah visa online themselves?

Nigeria is not on the tourist eVisa list. Nigeria is on Nusuk's serviced countries list, but direct visa issue is not confirmed, so plan to use a NAHCON-licensed operator.

How do I check that an Umrah operator is NAHCON licensed?

Ask for its licence and check NAHCON's list of Umrah-licensed companies on nahcon.gov.ng. The online list is dated 2021 to 2023, so confirm with NAHCON if the company is missing.

What vaccinations do Nigerian pilgrims need?

Meningitis ACYW with a certificate, at least one dose of IPV polio vaccine, and yellow fever for everyone over 9 months.

Is there a direct flight from Nigeria to Jeddah?

Yes, Saudia from Kano. Saudia is due to start Abuja to Jeddah non-stops on 1 December 2026. Lagos has no non-stop.
